Parks Maintenance Operator at City of Armadale in Armadale




Job Title: Parks Maintenance Operator
This permanent, full-time position has a salary range of $48,110 - $58,816 per annum, plus up to 14.25% superannuation and a 9-day fortnight. The City conducts a comprehensive health and wellbeing program offering annual health assessments, flu vaccinations and skin cancer screenings to all employees.
Qualifications/Training/Experience:
  • Sound experience in large scale parks maintenance.
  • Experience in the safe and effective use of parks maintenance equipment
  • Possession of current WA ‘MR’ or ‘HR’ class license
  • Horticulture or Turf qualification (desirable)
  • Possession of Safety Awareness Card (desirable)
  • Senior First Aid Certificate (desirable).
  • Chainsaw competency certificate (desirable)
  • MRWA competency certificate (desirable)
  • Tractor driving experience (desirable)
  • Experience in using a powered spray unit (desirable)
  • Experience in utilizing a water truck pump unit (desirable)
  • Experience in working unsupervised
  • Experience in working to maintenance schedules
Skills:
  • Amenity horticulture skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Sound verbal communication skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to correctly interpret drawing/specifications
  • Ability to set priorities, manage own time and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to operate a variety of horticultural plant and equipment in a safe and competent
Key responsibilities:
  • Use mowers, whipper snipper and other small plant to carry out maintenance work on parks and reserves.
  • Undertake horticultural activities including, but not limited to, weeding, pruning, digging, raking, mulching, planting, spraying (with approved herbicides) and watering.
  • Removal of general litter from Council reserves and gardens
  • Operate tractors and a variety of 3 point linkage equipment
  • Operate trucks, water truck and 4WD spray unit to carry out maintenance of parks and reserves
  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of roles within the City’s Parks Department (operating tractors, trucks, water truck, spray unit, ride-on mowers, small plant)
  • Responsible for quality and completion of own work (under routine direction)
  • Monitor and report any hazard, damage etc on parks or equipment to Parks Supervisor.
  • Ensure correct use, clean and tidy presentation of vehicles and equipment at all times.
  • Maintain professional and courteous relationships with general public and staff.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working both individually and as part of the parks team within the Parks Department to achieve the Strategic Goals for the Department.
  • Liaise with other departments, as and when necessary for parks maintenance.
  • Work in a manner, which is consistent with Occupational Safety and Health requirements, and promote safe work practices with other employees.
  • Use safe manual handling techniques.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute ideas and information.
  • Attend relevant training as directed by the Parks Supervisor.
  • Observe and adhere to workplace Equal Employment Opportunity Legislation and display behavior that is consistent with Council’s Code of Conduct and Council Policies.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Supervise staff assisting with duties as directed by Parks Supervisor.
Desirables:
  • Horticultural or turf qualifications.
  • Possession of Safety Awareness Card.
  • Senior First Aid Certificate.
  • MRWA worksite traffic management.
  • Chainsaw competency certificate.
  • Tractor driving experience.
  • Experience in using a powered spray unit.
