Background:

Youth+ is an initiative of Edmund Rice Education Australia. Youth+ services including Flexible Learning Centres (FLCs) offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education and social inclusion program for young people who are disenfranchised from mainstream structures. Young people may express a broad range of complex education and social needs and the Youth+ services respond with a variety of flexible and innovative social inclusion and learning experiences.

Primary Role:

·         The Occupational Therapist reports to the Head of Campus and Director, Youth+.

He/she has responsibility to:

·         Manage the provision of Occupational Therapy to adolescents within the Flexible Learning Centre environment implementing skills and knowledge in contemporary school based Occupational therapy with a focus on young people with high support needs.

·         Participate as a team member with an emphasis on delivery of high quality Occupational therapy services which support engagement, wellbeing, social inclusion and learning outcomes.

·         She/he works collaboratively and is supported by Teachers, Youth/Social Workers, and Head of Campus. .

Qualifications:

·         The employee should also possess or be eligible for a Working With Children Clearance Notice and Ochre Card

·         Relevant degree from a recognized tertiary institution

·         Current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia

Key Characteristics:

·         The employee in this position is required to demonstrate competency involving self directed application of knowledge with substantial depth in Occupational Therapy practice.

Skills and Knowledge:

·         Demonstrated skills and knowledge in Occupational Therapy theory, practice, frameworks and ethics.

·         Ability to analyze complex situations and implementation of appropriate strategies to enhance the professional practice of teaching and non teaching staff

·         Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to work collaboratively and establish and maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Provide high quality and effective and efficient Occupational therapy services to the young people attending St Joseph’s FLC including a specialist class of young people with diagnosed disabilities.

·         Provide advanced consultative and resource services to teachers, youth and social workers, Parents and others.

·         Contribute and actively participate in professional development and supervision activities to maintain a high level of knowledge and skills.

·         Collaborates with the team to support a socially inclusive program that responds to the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and cultural needs of young people.

·         Participates in the daily routines and activities of the FLC e.g. morning meetings, lunch, electives, outings, camps.

·         Carries out duties and tasks that may be reasonably assigned by the Director from time to time.
