Job Title: Indigenous Children and Families Officer

This part-time, contract position through to 30 June 2014 attracts a salary in the range of $53,089 - $62,758 (pro-rata) per annum, dependant on skills and experience, plus up to 14.25% superannuation.
Qualifications/Training/Experience:
  • Aboriginality is an essential requirement for this position authorized under Section 50.D of the Equal Opportunities Act 1984.
  • Experience working with community programs, activities and events focused on children.
  • Possession of a current National Police Clearance
  • Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Possession of Working with Children’s check
  • Current C class Driver’s License
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Understanding of early childhood growth and development
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Developed computer skills, including proficiency in use of Microsoft Office package
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-purpose community centre environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team
Key duties and responsibilities:
  • Assist with planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of activities which meet the objectives and deliverables of Indigenous Parenting Services.
  • Assist with the collection of information/data for progress reports in accordance with the requirements of the FaHSCIA funding agreement.
  • Assist with building networks to encourage key services to work in partnership with Indigenous Parenting Services delivered via the Champion Centre and in the community.
  • Assist with encouraging vulnerable families to participate and provide support and advocacy so children can access services and attend activities.
  • Assist with providing culturally appropriate information to ensure improved outcomes for children 0-12 years of age.
  • Assist and participate in one off events such as Children’s Week, Child Protection Week, NAIDOC etc.
  • Flexibility in scheduling working hours to accommodate attendance at related activities
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and promote safe work practices.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with Equal Opportunity legislation and City’s Code of Conduct.
